Sathya Sai Education in Human Values
The Sathya Sai Education in Human Values Programme (or SSEHV) derives its inspiration from Sri Sathya Sai Baba, who is the Chancellor of the Sathya Sai University. Sathya Sai Baba is reforming education world-wide with his philosophy that the goal of education is good character. Sai Baba says "Education is for life, not for earning a living".
Sathya Sai Education in Human Values, Australia
The Institute of Sathya Sai Education, Australia (ISSE) was established to propagate Sathya Sai Education in the Human Values of Truth, Right Conduct, Peace, Love and Non-Violence.
The Institute is overseeing the introduction of Education in Human Values (EHV) in several schools. It runs orientation workshops for the teachers, develops the Education in Human Values program for the children, teachers and parents and trains the teachers in methodology. The Institute has been holding lectures, workshops and radio talks in several countries where it has also initiated Education in Human Values for parents. It has also been instrumental in implementing programs for Education in Human Values at the post-graduate level.
The ISSE is currently collaborating with the UN Habitat to deliver Values based Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Education in several Asian countries.
The Institute has one Sathya Sai School in Murwillumbah in northern New South Wales. This school is acting as the model of human values in the local community and for local state schools.
The Institute was instrumental in initiating a Masters in Learning Management (MLM) Course in Human Values Education in the University of Central Queensland (UCQ).
The Diploma and Advanced Diploma Courses of the Institute are accredited for the MLM Course in the UCQ. Our first Masters' student will graduate this year and has been awarded the Masters degree with distinction by the UCQ.

An Australian Human Values School
The Sathya Sai Primary School in Murwillumbah, Northern NSW, integrates Human Values into every aspect of school learning and experience. The curriculum is that prescribed by the Board of Studies, the six Key Learning Areas being English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Creative Arts, Human Studies and the Environment, Physical Education/Personal Development/ Health.
Values taught at the School
The school gives prominence to character development through a Human Values Program and by providing a friendly and caring environment. Values education hinges on five prime values - Love, Truth, Peace, Right Conduct and Non Violence and is taught through sub-values such as caring, sharing, honesty, helpfulness, justice, fairness, self esteem, responsibility, and reliability, to name a few.
Integration into General Curriculum
The values are reinforced by having a total school culture based on human values and by integrating these values into the general curriculum. By immersing children in such an atmosphere we are providing them with the powerful tools of self discipline, self awareness, self esteem and discrimination to guide and protect them through the difficult adolescent years to adulthood. Such students will have acquired moral character based on an understanding and awareness of their humanness.
